Stories by the fire at night were a real part of my formative years. The telling of these tales primarily by my father reinforced my pre-existing curiosity with “characters”. Visualising the people in his vivid tales, the personalities, the wit and sadness was the start of my interest in all things creative.

At 17 I began my third level studies at DIT Mountjoy Square, Dublin, graduating in 1997 with a first class honour in Visual Communication (Design). During that time I also achieved a number of student awards including, Wiggins Teape Award, and National Tree Week.

For the following ten years I was based in Dublin illustrating for design, advertising, publishing, and editorial clients. These included the likes of Glaxo Smithkline, Kraft Foods Europe and Guinness amongst many others.

I now live with my husband and young family in Cork city, Ireland.

I work from my home studio in the villageĀ of Blackrock.

In recent years my work has been concentrated in the area of book illustration, both for children and teenagers.

The Reics Carlo Young Persons book of the year award recognises excellence in Irish language book publishing. For the last two consecutive years my work has been shortlisted for this award.

I am enjoying this work immensely not least because of my own childrens love of a good story. The challenge is the same for me now as in my youth- how to flesh out the characters and bring the authors vision to life.

To date I have illustrated 19 books. These vary from novels for the teenage market to picture books for the very young.

Texture, contrast, light and dark combined with simple compositions constitute the heart of my visual style.
